A tummy tuck is used to remove excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. It is also referred to as an abdominoplasty. The amount of tissue removed commonly extends from the hairline up to the belly button. The vertical rectus muscles are repaired tightening the abdomen. The belly button is placed into the abdominal wall of tissue that has ben lowered to the hairline. There are techniques to help avoid drains and often, a pain pump is used to control abdominal pain for the first week postop. The incisions are usually designed to fit within the bathing suit lines.
