Dr. Brantner is a native of South Dakota. His family moved to Ventura, California when he was 16 and he graduated from Buena High School in Ventura. He earned his B.A. from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California in 1969, graduating with honors. Medical studies were pursued at the George Washington University Medical School, in D.C. graduating in the top 10% with his MD in 1973. He was selected for membership in the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, while in medical school.
Residency training began at UCLA where Dr. Brantner completed two years of general surgery. He then elected to pursue ENT training at University of California Irvine. He completed that residency in 1978 and became certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology (Head & Neck Surgery) in 1979. He practiced ENT for one year establishing a head & neck surgery department at the Mullikan Medical Group between 1978 and 1979. In 1979 Dr. Brantner began his plastic surgery residency in Phoenix graduating in 1981. He was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1983.
In 1981, Dr. Brantner returned to Ventura, California and established his practice in plastic surgery and head and neck surgery. In 1985, Dr. Brantner became a clinical attending for the UCLA Plastic Surgery Department. He remained actively teaching at UCLA, and became an Assistant Clinical Professor in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Brantner accumulated vast experience in all types of cosmetic surgery while practicing in southern California. In 2014, after 33 years in Ventura, Dr. Brantner sold his office and moved his family to Prescott to be near his oldest son. Although retirement was an option, Dr. Brantner resumed practicing 10 months later joining Arizona Dermatology Group. He has been with Arizona Dermatology since June 2015.
Dr. Brantner has full privileges in Plastic Surgery at Yavapai Regional Medical Center, Tri-City Surgery Center, and Prescott Outpatient Surgery Center. His double board certification combined with 35 years of experience is a great benefit for his patients. Dr. Brantner is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the California Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS), and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Dr. Brantner lives in Prescott with his wife and daughter. He is an avid pilot and has been flying since he was 16. He holds a multiengine Airline Transport Pilot certificate, a commercial single engine seaplane rating, and a private rotorcraft rating. He is a certified flight instructor for single, multiengine, and instrument ratings. Dr. Brantner is type rated in the CE-500 Cessna Citation. He is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA and can issue first, second, and third class medical certificates. He also enjoys bird hunting, target shooting, and reloading.
